We tested every major feature and rated each one individually. Here is how Housecall Pro performs where it matters.
Drag-and-drop scheduling works well for most service businesses. The dispatching board gives you a clear view of who is where and what is coming up next. You can assign jobs, set arrival windows, and send automatic notifications to customers. It is not as sophisticated as ServiceTitan for complex multi-day projects, but it handles day-to-day scheduling for most field service businesses without issues.
One of Housecall Pro's strongest areas. You can create invoices from completed jobs with a few taps, accept credit card and ACH payments on-site, and set up automatic payment reminders. The instapay feature lets you access funds quickly rather than waiting days for bank transfers. Payment processing fees are 2.99% for card transactions, which is standard for the industry.
Customer Management (CRM)
Housecall Pro stores customer contact info, job history, property details, and notes in one place. It works fine as a basic CRM for tracking interactions and keeping your team informed. However, it lacks deeper CRM features like lead scoring, sales pipeline tracking, or automated follow-up sequences that you would get from a dedicated CRM or a platform like OPS Engine.
You can build professional estimates with line items, photos, and optional add-ons. Customers can approve estimates online, which speeds up the sales process. The price book feature (Essentials plan and up) lets you save commonly used services and materials so you are not retyping the same items on every quote. Good for straightforward jobs, but less flexible for complex project bids.
The mobile app is genuinely one of the best in the field service space. It is fast, intuitive, and gives technicians everything they need: job details, navigation, customer info, invoicing, payment collection, and photo uploads. Both iOS and Android apps are well-maintained. Your crew can be up and running in under an hour, which is a real advantage over clunkier competitors.
This is where Housecall Pro differentiates itself. Built-in email marketing, automated review requests, a postcard marketing program, and a referral manager are all included or available as add-ons. Most competitors require third-party integrations for this. The email campaigns are basic compared to dedicated marketing platforms, but the convenience of having it built in saves time.
Basic reporting covers revenue, job completions, and technician performance. The Essentials plan gives you enough to track how your business is doing month to month. However, advanced reporting is locked behind the MAX plan, and even then, it is not as customizable as what you would get from Jobber or ServiceTitan. If data-driven decisions are critical to your operation, this is a weakness.
QuickBooks Online, Zapier, Google Local Services, Thumbtack, and a handful of others. The integration list is decent but not as extensive as Jobber's. The open API on the MAX plan opens up custom integrations, but that is only available at the highest price tier. For most small businesses, the QuickBooks and Zapier connections will cover the basics.
